YEKATERINBURG, Nov 26 (PRIME) – The capacity of the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline, previously known as the North-South natural gas pipeline, may reach 16 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said on Friday.
“The flagship project of building the Pakistan Stream pipeline plays an important role in our cooperation (with Pakistan) … with a capacity of up to 16 billion cubic meters per year,” he said.
Pakistan’s Economic Minister Omar Ayub Khan put the pipeline’s cost at U.S. $3.5 billion.
“The Pakistani–Russian pipeline Pakistan Stream is the key project that will cost $3.5 billion and would be of significant importance for both Pakistan and Russia from the point of view of investment,” he said.
The 1,100 kilometer pipeline is to link infrastructure for the intake of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in Pakistan’s south to the power plants and industrial gas consumers in the city of Kasur in the Punjab northern province.
